All Group Homes and Nursing Care Facilities are
on Lock Down due to the Covin-19 outbreak. No family members nor outsiders are
allowed in facilities. This is for their utmost safety and everyone else’s.
They stopped community outings also.
The group homes are taking measures for
hand washing and keeping a 6 foot distance when possible. This will be very
difficult with the more severely disabled population who need intensive care.
We have to hope the changes will not effect their mental well being too dramatically.
Many kids with autism can not endure changes and it may be more difficult for
them to cope. The trained staff who know them well will have to find ways of
handling this or resort to prn medications to relieve their anxieties.
Hopefully all the facilities are abiding with keeping the environment
ultra-clean because it is said that this Virus can last 3 days on surfaces. We
do not know how long these measures will be in effect but everything that can
be done to protect the disabled residing in these institutions and others
working around them will help in the long run until this Virus takes it's
course.
