Doctor's Rejection of the Developmentally Disabled

This is a letter I just wrote and sent to my area Senator, Assemblymen, and the Governor concerning problems with Doctors treating the Disabled population in New Jersey, especially since the changes from Medicaid to HMOs.

9/29/12

Dear Senator; Assemblyman; Governor;

I would like to know if something could be done about Doctors for the Disabled population and their rejection of services or negative attitude towards DDD Clients and staff who bring them.
My son is in a NJ Residential Group Home through DDD. He is severely disabled with Autism, Seizures, and many serious medical and behavior issues. I am very involved with him, taking him home with me at least 3 months out of the year.

Since the Medicaid was switched to HMOs, there has been rejection of services and a bad attitude from some of the doctor's towards my son and the group home staff. I was told by my son's DDD Case Manager and Willowglen Academy, NJ Inc. where my son is residentially placed, that all DDD Clients go through this with Doctors. The 'bad attitude' is to the point where the staff can no longer bring the clients to the doctor's office.

Why? Why is this allowed? I find this discriminating to the disabled. There should be penalties or violations or a government list of the doctor's who discriminate against the disabled. Investigations should be made. It is not fair or just.

This population is very innocent and helpless. They deserve to be treated humanely. The Doctor's should be alerted to elevate themselves from their ignorance and stop rejecting and treating the disabled with a bad attitude.

Can you please address this in any way because it is so immoral and unconscionable in this day and age in this country.

I appreciate all you help.

Very truly yours,

CureAutism
